The Telecom Modernization Act Will:

  • Eliminate tariffs and their expense, freeing up cash that can be used to improve networks and hire new employees.
  • Eliminate duplication in paper filings before the DPUC: Companies normally submit filings electronically, there's no reason they should submit paper copies as well. It is wasteful and redundant for both companies and the DPUC.
  • Eliminate need to audit telecom companies individually: Many telecom companies are already audited annually in accordance with federal law, and no need to file individual state audits. The DPUC may request any additional information regarding operations, if need be.
  • Eliminate the price floor that prevents telecom companies from reducing prices below a certain level.
  • Eliminate the requirement that telecom companies obtain approval from the DPUC before stopping offering a competitive service.

The Telecom Modernization Act will not hurt consumers and will not result in a loss of any revenue for the State of Connecticut.

Take Action

Help Connecticut update telecom regulations to bring investment and job growth.

"We're also getting rid of absurd and unnecessary paperwork requirements that waste time and money. We're looking at the system as a whole to make sure we avoid excessive, inconsistent and redundant regulation."
— President Barack Obama
Wall Street Journal, Jan. 18, 2011

President Obama is right. We must "make sure we avoid excessive, inconsistent and redundant regulation," encouraging the elimination of "rules that stifle job creation and make our company less competitive."
